I want to learn how to speak Russian but all the books and tape recordings I keep finding are for those who are traveling to Russia and the vocab and lessons are based on hotel experiences and shopping. Any suggestions?

I have used the online "free" translators but they all give a different answer as to what the translation is. I need someone who fluently speaks russian to translate "Without you there is no me" into russian, using russian characters. Or if somebody knows of a good site or teacher that could help, I would like that information. Thank you ![]()
Thank you for your help. I'd really like to learn russian but it's hard to learn a language without an instructor....
Does anyone know a free web site where I can learn Russian, and makes learning Russian very easy, and affective?

This is a follow up to my earlier question about when the Russian aristocracy starting speaking French.
I am entering college this Fall. I plan to major in International Studies with a minor in Russian language and literature. I plan on studying Spanish at the same time, and then I want to study Arabic in graduate school. I want to gain employment in the Foreign Service or CIA.
I know some people say the need for Russian language is obsolete. Should I keep Russian as my minor, or should I choose a different minor and just study Russian courses?
Or did those Man U fans who went to Monaco go totally nancy and begin nibbling on frog legs and foie gras?
Or maybe they were simply aghast at seeing the walking corpse Gary Neville creeping on the pitch?
So the Russians somehow paid less to go to Monaco and because they're poor working-class people they were louder and had better banners? LOL! Maybe Putin just sent the Ossetians and gave them some songs to sing huh?
I just really want to learn Russian so is there a good free site to learn the language? Mabe with step by step and audio aids.
What method did you use to learn how to speak Russian and how long did it take you before you were mildly fluent?
I need it in the english form i.e. the way privet is hello.
Rosetta Stone offers Russian, but not Ukrainian. I had some Ukrainian lessons as a child and want to continue to learn it now. Will the Russian Rosetta Stone mess me up or provide me with a good base for conversational Ukrainian?
Suppose the person is a native English speaker.
Suppose the person wishes to read the great works of Russian literature.
Can you suggest some good books?

I have lots of Russian friends on Facebook who like to sign their names in Russian when they write wall posts, and I'd like to be able to do the same. Does anyone know how to transliterate Chris Carroux into Russian? It'd be greatly appreciated!
My last name is French, so it would be pronounced "cuhroo" with an emphasis on the "oo" sound. Also, if you could include the transliteration for Christopher, then that would be great. Thanks!
The website, Deutsche Welle ("German World") is an excellent website for learning German, because they have, among other things, the ability to listen to slowly-spoken German lessons. It is great. Does anyone know of such a website for learning Russian? There are, of course, Russian radio stations, but they speak too quickly for me to understand, so I am looking for a place where I can hear it spoken more slowly.
I was surprised to read on some forum dedicated to Russian as foreign language talks about how ppl want to learn it, how beautiful it is. I think it's a challenge cause Russian is or thought to be one of the hardest languages.
My Name Is: Felipe Ruiz

I've always wanted to know how to speak it and write cuz it sounds sooo cool to me and Russians always sound like they are always speaking respectfully to each other all the time. and there accents are awesome too haha.. hopefully someday i'll learn it

By that, I mean do they simplify their speech in more informal, colloquial settings? If so, what are some examples?
I'm part Russian and I was thinking of learning it. If you're learning it, which parts do you think are the most difficult or confusing so far?
Why is Russian difficult?
