It would only have to be phoneticaly - such as "Privet" or "ochen"
How would I write this:
"Ah, yes, Nikolaev. I hear that this is a very beautiful city. How long have you lived in the U.S? ...
Yes, it is interesting. You've probably noticed that not many Americans speak a language other than English, even though our ancestors are from all over the world"

My primary language is English, and I have 2 years of Latin from High School.
I'm going to get the Rosetta Stone program to learn because the list for military language school is extremely long...
I want to learn Russian but should I learn German first and segue into Russian later on? Or should I try to plunge directly into Russian?
Thanks everyone,
-W-

Should I just continue to study Russian so that I can be fluent? I keep on mixing the words up and it feels like my brain hurts when I'm trying to speak Ukrainian.
I think that Ukrainian sounds less harsh. I'm half Ukrainian so I'm trying to be cultural!

I'm looking for specific books, audio, etc.... please keep in mind i have a very tight budget so "Rosetta stone" is out of the equation

I absolutely canNOT make out their cursive! It makes absolutely no sense to me; the letters don't even remotely match what they look like when printed! Do many Russians *use* cursive? I sure hope not... haha Is it imperative to know? And is it something I could learn quickly if I decided to actually travel to the country?
