anyone speak russian? can i get a translation on chernobyl?
i found this explanation on the etymology of the word chernobyl.
http://encyclopedia.stateuniversity.com/pages/4322/Chernobyl.html
the reason i bring this up is because i often here end-timers talk about how chernobyl is the russian word for wormwood, which is mentioned in revelations 8:10-11. this would be interesting if the translation were true. however, i really can't find any source outside of end-times websites which make this assertion.

My husband is probably one of the few Americans who has visited the Chernobyl area, so we have an interest in this story. There is a valid argument to be made that Chernobyl can be translated "wormwood" but it really has to be stretched.
And why take a secondary translation when the translation that you cited is considered more accurate?
Besides, wormwood in Revelation is the name of a star that fell to earth, not an explosion that occurred on earth.
It doesn’t really matter.
Revelation 8 is yet ahead in the future. But the connection would be that the bitter waters would be caused by a nuclear detonation, from war. Everything in Revelation past chapter 3 is yet ahead of us in the future, so Revelation 8 is NOT talking about the specific accident at Chernobyl in the past.
All of Revelation in all chapters will happen with 100% guaranteed accuracy.
My wife speaks fluent Russian, but I can’t ask her now. My Russian is not nearly as good. Ya magoo gavarit chut chut paruski
I suggest you look up Tigger. She’ll help you.
Ukrainian for black stalks or black grass, from the family of wormwood.
