How difficult is it to learn Russian?

I took a few years of German in high school and it came easily to me. I think Russian is really awesome and would like to learn it, but because it has such a different alphabet, etc, I'm afraid it will be way too hard. How hard is it to learn, pronunciation-wise, grammar-wise, etc, and what would be an efficient way of learning it?

Well, if it is easy for you to learn foreign languages it’ ll be not a problem for you.
I’ ll try to tell you about the aspects of Russian language just to give you an image of it.
Russian is a slavonic language and shares a lot of words with other European languages (mama= mother, sestra=sister, voda=water). There are also a lot of borrowings from German (kurort), English (manager, engineer…), French (deja vu) and Greek (krovat= bed). but there are also borrowings from Turk languages and sometimes from arabic.
Now about Russian Grammar: the patterns of making negative and questions are easy. But there are 7 cases in Russian language. And it is not easy to learn the plural of some words, although there are some general patterns and it is easier than in German.
And the alphabet. it differs, but some of the letters are the same with English ones.
the pronunciation is not very difficult and is somewhat close to Spanish.
and about learning it: as usual you need a good teacher, a good textbook and you need to communicate with Russian speakers.=) after you’ll learn something you also will be able to listen to the Russian songs , to read books in Russian.
Good Luck! Hope it’ll help.
P.S. There are a lot of information on Russian websites about learning Russian as a foreign language. F.e. this one: http://speakrussian.report.ru/_5FolderID_220_.html
