I plan on taking Russian and Ukrainian through correspondence this upcoming term and I was wondering how difficult this language is to learn. I seem to pick up languages fairly easily, and know some of the Cyrillic alphabet. So on a scale of 1-10, how difficult is it?

Erm I started learning since I was born it was easy back then but now I can’t even read it, or write it. Only speak and understand what others are saying. It’s difficult, well at-least the writing part of it but apparently to learn a language now you have to learn the writing? so 9/10
Russian and English are the two most difficult languages to learn to speak.
To PROPERLY learn Russian, one must learn from a person whose native language is Russian. I learned Russian while stationed in Antarctica. Our foreign exchange scientist, Dr. Alexandorvich Zhdanov (a meteorological scientist), was from the Ukraine. I learned from him. My first Russian I met about 2 years later and spoke to him in Russian recognized my accent as being the Ukrainian dialect.
In Taiwan, a very lucrative business is teaching English to Taiwanese school kids and businessmen. They want AMERICAN speakers, not someone who learned English from someone else, and not BRITISH English speakers. While working with the Taiwan Navy several years ago, one of the officers had a brother who started out with a one room school in an office he rented. In 2000 he had a 4 story building that was nothing but class rooms for learning English. He was getting out when he returned to Taiwan and work with his brothers and offered me and my wife a job. He was going to pay for my apartment and give me a VERY NICE salary. Unfortunately I wasn’t in the position to pack up and move at that time.
Hi,
I read that its one of the languages where, if you want to become fluent in it, you have to travel to that country and become assimilated in the language
I think its considered hard since it uses a different alphabet
good luck!
I think there are a lot of "Urban legends! about Russian language, people think it is difficult because the alphabet is different or because they have grammar cases and different verb tenses, but as a matter or fact it is easier than languages like arabic, chinese, japanese, etc.
I learned it in the University for 3 years and then I went to russia and I had normal conversations there.
I think its hard to learn it compare to other languages like English, Spanish, German etc caz it has cyrillic alphabet and a lot of cases, sequences of times
