How long does it take to learn Russian?
I only speak English fluently, but took Latin for 3 years. I really just find Russian to be a beautiful language, and have lately found interest in learning a new one..so I figured why not Russian? How long on average do you think it takes, and is it hard for an English speaker?
Also, any resources for a place to learn it fluently would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Some people whine about the goofy alphabet, but if you are not a whiner then it isn’t any harder than any other foreign language. Always remember: In Russia they make all the little kids learn it!
Russian language is pretty hard to learn for foreign speakers. It has different alphabet and absolutely different grammar structure than English. But don’t get upset
I know lots of americans who have learned it and speak it greatly!
the herdest thing is to start) and you will need a help of a teacher or smth because yourself is not that easy, but obviously just look some some websites where you can start learning it) just Google it or smth. It would be nice to have some Russian speaking friend around too so try to look up for some Russians at your place. Russians are everywhere mostly) lol well if you live in a big city. Well anyways it’s a great language to learn so try it out!
It is hard not because of alphabet, believe me. Smart enough person needs about 2 hours to learn how to read Russian words. If you have troubles with memory, then – about 2 days. No more.
In general if you live in Russia it takes about 1 year to be able to speak on most of daily subjects with patient Russian-speaking person who will listen to you attentively and will not hurry you up.
If you learn language outside Russian-speaking country – then, probably, about 2 years to achieve the same level.
But it is only if you learn hard.
It takes quite some time. Russian consists of 5 english letters, 7 "false friends" kind of like B=V, H=N, P=R, like that, 9 Greek Orthodox letters, 5 Hebrew letters and 6 Russian letters. It takes a while to memorize all that. But thats not the hard part you have to know how to put them together. Try to take some online courses that should help you learn it quicker.
Good luck! (:
You may never speak it fluently unless you have fluent speakers to practice with. I suggest you learn the basics then look for some Russian neighborhoods or areas and find someone to practice with. If you are a quick learner and spend a lot of time, this may take a year or two.
About an hour.
Russian is often one of the harder languages to learn for English speakers as it is in another alphabet- cyrillic. As soon as you master the change of alphabet it becomes like learning other languages. It will require a lot of dedication.
There are plent of online resources. The BBC are good for languages. You can even get very good quality apps for your phone in Russian. On YouTube there is also a channel dedicated to people learning Russian. ITunes- you can download free podcasts and learn it by listening to audio. Search around and find a style best suited to your learning.
Good luck and have fun- it is always easier to learn a language when you enjoy it.
(apologies if my English is bad. I am just learning)
