I want to learn a new language. Should I learn German or Russian?
My primary language is English, and I have 2 years of Latin from High School.
I'm going to get the Rosetta Stone program to learn because the list for military language school is extremely long...
I want to learn Russian but should I learn German first and segue into Russian later on? Or should I try to plunge directly into Russian?
Thanks everyone,
-W-

Russian. Russia is a major global power both economically and militarily. Russia is expanding every day. Germany is great but it really has no where to go. Germany has pretty much climbed as high as it can. It doesnt have the potential that Russia has. Also, more people in the world speak Russian than German. In terms of the future, Russian would be far more useful than German.
However, it will no doubt be more difficult to learn Russian. It uses a completely separate alphabet while German utilizes the same one as English (as in the same basic letters).
German would be cool
Russian
german because it is still a larger economic center
I would go for Russian. More challenge. And then later go for German
u should learn Blugarian it’s fun and easy
also German then you’ll sound amazing girlfriend
Whatever YOU think is the best, it’s your choice..
Russian is hard to learn. It would be easier if you spoke Ukranien, Moldovian, Romanian.
well if u want to learn russian i guess it makes sense if u just go on ahead and learn it instead of starting with german since thats not the language u want to learn. i dont think it matters if u learn german first or not becaue russian is still a different languague then german even if they sound close so ur still going to have to learn a whole new language anyway even if u take german. ur welcome!
German has many similarities with English, so in some ways, knowing English to some degree an advantage if you want to learn German. My impression of Russian is that it is not as "close" to English as German. So if you are the type who wants to learn a more "familiar" language, German may be a better choice. If you are the opposite, maybe Russian is a better option.
German. I would find German much more practical.
Russian is easier to learn, although German may be more useful if you’re pursuing military aspirations. If you know German, you will get along great in Germany, Austria, and other countries where militaries are more commonly used.
