I actually found some information on the web, for instance courses at moscow state university, no doubt it is great but it is quite expensive too. I am more interested about the options in Ukraine, where the costs could be lower and would appreciate if you could name the best ukrainian universities.

Best Ukrainian universities would be in Kiev, that is the capital of the country. Please keep in mind that (a) it shouldn’t be cheap either, (b) Ukraine is an independent country now and they don’t really love us Russians, so going to Ukraine to study Russian may make you not so popular there (c) Ukrainians speak Russian very well, but Ukrainian Russian is not exactly the classic Russian. They have a very disticnt southern accent and sometimes their word usage is non-standard.
So I would better stick to Russian schools, maybe some smaller cities than Moscow which is one of the most expensive places to live in the world. Check St Petersburgh, check Novosibirsk, if you’re not afraid of cold. Check Nizhnij Novgorod. Those are the 3 next largest cities in Russia, all have very good culture. Check schools other than major universities. Russian universities are famous for sciences. Languages are often taught at what is called Pedagogichesky Institut or Pedagogichesky Universitet – the special schools where they teach school and university teachers. Some of them are very high quality schools and have higher standing for languages than major universities.
Go to Russia – Ukraina is a strange country – really strange -beware
And try to inform yourself about the Institute of advanced technology in Saint-Petersbourg – despite the name they are high skilled in languages .
Actually, some my friends have graduated here in the US and speak very good Russian. This is another option for you.
If you’re more interested in Ukrainian Universities, then try ones of South and East (they’re not hostile to Russian culture and language). I can recommend Donetsk State University (they’ve taught Russian to foreigners for ages). People speak Russian there, so you’ll be able to learn much beside classes. It is not cheap, though. Contact me if you need more information.
