If the boy sent back was not Russian, but African, would it still be in the news and people still talk abt it?

when the American adoptive mother sent back the adopted Russian child to Russia
I read the story, just curious how things would change if his race was different.

The biggest reason for the coverage is the diplomatic issue. US relations with Russia are more important than relations with any single African nation that might have raised protest.
I don’t want to dismiss your question so easily though because it is a fact that missing children who are cute white and female get much more news coverage than children of other races (or sexes) and with the media coverage comes more pressure on the police investigation.
In this case, I’m really not sure. I suspect with all the celebrity adoptions of children from Africa, it might actually get more coverage. But that’s just speculation.
Yes… That’s not a race issue, it’s about a mother sending a child into harms way… I mean a note pinned to his shirt…? O.o
Yea… Like that’s going to stop anything from happening to that child.
I think it still would have made news. I can’t believe that someone would put a child alone on a plane like that. i can’t believe the airline didn’t realize what was going on! no one has said anything about the airline! also, i think an African child wouldn’t have the mental issues this woman is claiming this little boy has. Russian orphans are known to have physiological issues, due to neglect. if babies don’t get loved and cuddled, it’s to be expected.
all in all, it’s a bad situation. this little boy is only going to be farther hurt emotionally now that he has been "returned." when adopting a child, you are not buying a sweater and decide that it’s just not a good fit. i think there must have really been underlying issues with this little boy, something finally happened for this adoptive mother to change her mind like that. she could have and should have handled it better!
you saying Americans care for Russians more than they do Africans? Cold War mindset didn’t end in ‘89. It doesn’t matter what ethnicity the kid is, it would have still made news.
Yes. I think its really about the fact that an America did that. Not what nationality the child is.
The main reason this is getting so much attention is because of the way the woman neglected this young child and shipped him off alone. The argument is over rather or not the boy is a U.S citizen, or a Russian citizen…Russia wants to handle the issue without America butting in, while America is claiming he is theirs because of the adoption. If you’re asking in regards to a racial concern, I think it would be the same if the kid were African. Black or white, the child was still treated poorly, and laws were broken. To assume such a thing is prejudice thinking, and exactly why there is so much hate in the world.
oh, hell yes. The press would still be short stroking it’s butt off.
Reminds me of that "Starvin’ Marvin" thing on Southpark. That was great.
Of course. With Rev. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton it would have been a lot worse than this story is.
I think so, I do think that the boy was crazy like the parents said, but it’s still not okay to throw a 7 year old on a plane by himself. I don’t think it would’ve been any different with a black child.
