I’m a Biology major in college, but I also want to learn Russian. How long would it take me to become fluent?

There are four Russian courses here: Beginning I and Beginning II as well as Intermediate I and Intermediate II. I'm relatively bright and have always done well in school, but I was wondering how long it takes a person to learn Russian in a college environment.

It depends. If you expect to learn everything here in the U.S. (or wherever you may be from) it might take a lot longer. However, if you decide to do study abroad which most schools have you will learn a lot faster. This will give you the chance to speak the language on a regular basis rather just in class. S you’ll learn a lot faster. If you have the chance to spend a summer, semester or even and entire academic year in Russia, by all means go for it. I plan on going to Spain next semester to finally become fluent in Spanish and will be finishing my academic studies there as well to prevent slow down.
If you are determined to learn Russian, you’ll do it.
Best of luck!
