Is it hard to learn Russian?
I have been learning German for the past 4 years and am currently working on a college degree in German. I really would like to learn a different language and Russian just seemed to stick out. My question is this. Is it hard to pick up on Russian if you already know German? I used to have a girlfriend that was Russian and the two languages sounded somewhat similar. Is that true?

They may sound similar, but they are two very different languages. Russian uses the Cyrillic alphabet. It is not too difficult to learn. Some people can master the alphabet within a few days. Make sure you know it by heart, and also know how to translate our letters to Cyrillic letters. Make sure you can recognize them instantly, hand write them without trouble, etc.
The hard part about Russian is the grammar. It is considered very difficult. Studying and practice makes perfect, however.
I have just started learning Russian. The alphabet is not as difficult as it may seem- it looks very intimidating, because it uses some symbols along with recognizable letters. ф з ц й и ч Those are some of the symbols. Another part that seems impossible is that some regular letters mean other letters. For example, P is R, B is V. This is surprisingly easy to learn, however.
It is a difficult language to learn, but it is not impossible.
Well, I would imagine so. I mean, although they’re both Indo-European languages, Russian is a Slavic language while German is Germanic. I’m quite sure that the two languages seldom have similarities. Plus, the style of writing is completely different, obviously.
