There are plenty of russian sites everywhere….
Mail.ru has ответы section… http://otvet.mail.ru/
Never used it so wouldn’t know if it is any good, but I came across it a few times. You might also check out rambler.ru and yandex.ru they have some blogs on there
Good luck!
I’m sticking to yahoo
edit: I just looked at it and it is EXACTLY like yahoo answers and all in russian
My best friend is Russian, and I can tell you that they are very exclusive, they like to stick to Russian when talking to other Russians, especially in front of Americans. Luckily for you they will not exclude you because you dont know the language, just being Russian is good enough for most of them. Not all of them speak good Russian in the first place too lol.
There are Russians all over the US, I find them wherever I go, and the connections they can give you are very valuable. Im not gonna get into to much specifics, but being Russian has perks.
Try facebook.com groups, join one or create your own. I have met girl with the same name as mineover there … and we became great friends…. U can do the same… look for russians who live in US or other countries…lot of them speak English. U can try myspace.com
May be u can find Russian community not far from your place to meet in personal.
Yahoo.ru exists, but it’s in Russian, just for search.
I use Russian Yahoo! My second language is Russian, first is Bulgarian, so….Exist!
There are tons of social networking sites, but unfortunately your demand for everything to be in Roman letters (that is what they are, not English) is almost impossible to meet. You see, it’s rather unpleasant to have to read transliterated Russian and not really convenient to type it either, so people don’t do that unless it’s for short messages or something. The only thing I can think of is maybe you can use normal Cyrillic sites and just put everything through http://www.translit.ru/
However, I’d advise you not to contribute yourself, until you learn to write Russian semi-well, since people will criticize your spelling skills.
Yes, you will need to learn how to type Russian – and I do NOT recommend you to
"put everything through http://www.translit.ru/" -
it’s not a _normal_ way of typing (as people do for Russian, English or Spanish) – with _system_ keyboard of your computer; it a very special way – was useful in the last century when most people did not have their own computer:
- it has some Rules for "good combinations" like "no ’sch’"
(while a person who wants to study Russian should learn "combinations" at all??? They are not part of Russian language)
- it has Exclusions of those Rules (explained in its Help section) when Rules don’t work – such as word ‘rajon’ or ‘vyuchil’
It’s like to learn how to make love – but doing so in a hammock while wearing skiis
Much better way – recommended by http://AATSEEL.org for people who decided to study Russian – is to type _normally_ (no one uses "special tool" for typing say Spanish) – with a Standard or Phonetic (homophonic) keyboard layout.
In addition to AATSEE.org you may want to read http://RusWin.net/kbd.htm
http://www.pravda.ru
a russian newspaper with an english version link in the upper right hand corner of the screen…many russian links etc.
start by going to http://www.sptimes.ru and maybe you can connect up
