learn russian?

i have seen some website http://ww3.pimsleurapproach.com/include/lp/19_95_c1/lp001.asp?learn=Russian&Sid=000115_GGL that says you can start learning in ten days i dont really no what to believe but i would like to speak russian fluent and i was wondering how long it would take roughly

Well… I have started to learn Italian by this and I liked this!!! But… lol! This seems to be expensive for such a thing! :/// !!! My Italian boyfriend has downloaded this for free. He has also downloaded Russian but he doesn’t learn it. So! Well, after that I simply went to the courses of Italian and I can tell you it is much better! I recommend you to find a good teacher and learn like this! I can tell you how this Pimsleur works! All the lessons are 30 min long. There they repeat simple phrases like Greeting each other, what do you want to drink, how to ask the road. Well, I have made 32 lessons of 90. Of course I got to know this basic things from there but deffenitely not the grammar by which I can tell about myself etc! I really advice you to find a teacher! I speak 8 languages myself… :S… I had only 2 lessons on Italian courses till now (well, I’ve just started courses) but I already managed to learn much much more then I would manage to learn by myself with this cds! The good reason is that actually this Pimsleur is a nice thing to train prononciation of common phrases and if you are not limited with money you can have this one too
! And now about the length of studying Russian… Well, prepare yourself it is long! But if you want you can do it! I speak it so you can too 
!!! Till speaking fluent will pass a long time but every time after the lesson with the teacher and studying at home what he has given you (studying at home is one of the most important things in learning a language!) you will feel more confident with every lesson and this will give you strength! 
If you will feel down sometimes (like when studying endings of nouns) just always remeber that you can broke this wall, if you will beat all the time! 
… When I was learning Japanese by myself there was a moment when I sat down and cryed because I couldn’t understand anything anymore and this seemed so horribly hard!!! But then my mother has found me a very good teacher and all my questions disappeared. Also you have always ask a question whenever it appears! And no matter how stupid it is and how many times you’ve asked it! Okey… But I promise you the alphabet you will learn quickly and after you can read you will feel much better

Actually we have 33 letters… I don’t know where he has found fifty…
Hell, you can START learning in one minute – you don’t need ten days.
But to be fluent, whoa, that’s gonna be a b!tch. That’s going to take time even for just the verbal. For the written – forget about it, with more than fifty letters and more than one commonly used lettering system, it’ll be a while. I dropped out myself.
I’m familiar with Russian course from Pimsleur.
Pimsleur approach is good, if you are devoted you can learn a language.
Some weak point: too low total amount of words to learn and not enough on reading and writing. And I’m talking about the full one (three level, 90 lessons, 30 minutes each)!
So, it’s good as a start point, but overall not the bets and more complete one (I’m sorry all other I tried were made for Italian speaking people).
The short 4 cd version is good for a taste
If you like it, you know you can buy the full course, that’s an introduction, don’t expect too much, so.
Learning to speak any language fluently is based on how much work you are willing to put in.
The *ONLY* way you are going to become FLUENT in Russian is by spending alot of time with a Russian speaking person (Or being a complete hermit who is obsessed with becoming fluent). Fluency cannot be learned by book. It is a natural apptitude gained through human contact.
Pimsleur is best for Holiday Makers – the advantage of pimsleur is that it uses a spaced out recollection theory that *DOES* work. I’ve tried it and remember all of it after hearing the tape once. But it teaches you sentences which it deems useful. Often failing to tell you WHY the words are in that order and the endings have changed.
Russian is a 4/5 language to learn – Mandarin etc. being 5/5 Spanish being 1/5. Pimsleur will give you the basics for asking what you want etc. but the best way is to learn words as you need them. i.e. make a Russian friend and at cetain points you will need something (like a pencil perhaps) you will ask him how to say pencil (Karendash) your brain will attach Karendash to the need for an erasable writing utensil – this is how we learn by nature and th is ultimately the only way to learn fluency.
Taking that into consideration – By pimsleur – you will never be fluent. If you had Russian contact and spent a couple of hours each evening studying and learning words you could easily claim to "speak russian fluently" in 12 months.
