Learning to Read and speak Russian?
I'm learning Russian but have heard that some people only know how to speak it but can not read it. My main goal is to speak it understand when it's spoken. Should I learn to read Russian and speak it? What's easier best when learning Russian language?
For ex, if I only know it written in English...Preevyet rather than Preevyet written in Russian letters.
My husband's from Russia, so this is why I'm learning language.
Oh I don't need to hear ridiculous statements about Russian men or Russia....been with my hubby for 10 years happy and he hates vodka...get the picture. Thanks!

I am Russian and I don’t think you should bother with reading/writing. what you can do though, is get an electronic translator, which will pronounce words for you and you’ll learn the meaning. Russian is a hard language to learn, so wish you best of luck! with a Russian hubby you should just practice and practice (language, I mean)…
oh its very individual. if your hearing memory is more developed than your visual one then just learning to speak a language woudnt be a problem. but cyrillic alphabet is not that difficult compared to chinese or other types of characters. there are reading rules and they are not many so it will only improve your overall knowledge of the language if you can read too. i knew a french guy who learnt russian in a mere few months and was almost fluent yet he had lots of grammatical mistakes but he didnt care neither did people who talked to him. why? because his intonation and pronunciation were correct. so dont be afraid to speak it just speak even if you’re not sure if its correct. try to catch the melody of the language i.e. intonation and pronunciation and you will be fine ))
