Russia stopped the bloodshed. The South Ossetians were never a part of Georgia. After the fall of the USSR, they fought against Georgia to remain free and signed a treaty with Georgia in 1992. The US news has been distorting the facts for some reason but finally Bloomberg News has published a fairly accurate account. (google it) The UN is partially at fault again since they did not listen to Russia's pleas to stop the Georgian attacks on 8-7-8...The georgians attacked the day after the UN meeting. The US was the one to deny the UN intervention. The full UN report can be read at their site www.un.gov (the meeting notes are under <sc9419> which you can google with less typing. Of course it will be a politcal solution...the US can't spin their way out out of this one. Too many journalists were in the country before Russia went in.
