Hi Mark,
Without a doubt you need to learn the Russian (Cyrillic) alphabet first. You can’t do anything (except learn a few words / phrases) without knowing the alphabet.
Start right here:
http://listen2russian.com/lesson01/index.html
From there get to know a few handy phrases that you want to learn – by learning stuff that is interesting you will stay motivated.
Next get into the basics of grammar – nouns, adjective and verbs – don’t worry about ‘cases’ at the beginning (a more advanced grammar concept) .. you’ll just get confused.
Stick to the easy grammar until you feel confident picking the gender of a noun, matching an adjective to a noun, and conjugating verbs.
A decent book to use right from the beginning is Teach Yourself Beginners Russian by Farmer .. you can buy it really cheap 2nd-hand on Amazon.
Good luck! ..and learn the alphabet first!!
Learn the basics!

It’s a great site. They have lots of free information and they also have lessons you can buy for about $15. WAYYY more reasonable than Rosetta Stone. The free lessons helped me greatly though, you should definately look at them =).
Russian is a difficult language, u won’t learn it without special courses.
