Should I learn French if I want to study Russian history?

Besides learning Russian, I heard I should learn French. French was used primarily during the eighteenth century so I was just wondering if it would be a good idea. Thanks!

French was very popular in Russia in the 18th century. Girls from rich families were reading books in French, but everyone was speaking Russian .. so you don’t need to learn French, if you want to know Russian history =))
