I took a pretty intensive 7-hr/day six-month Russian language course in the USAF and found years later that I was retaining the Spanish better because of the much better chance of keeping up with it through day-to-day usage. They are both interesting with the Russian more complex with its use of Cyrillic characters along with Roman and Greek. I would recommend the Russian for the novelty of it if everything else was even but the Portugese if the opportunity to use it is better.. Its sentence struscture is completely diferent from English On the other hand, it really helps you learn and understand other languages. I am learning Spanish right now, and it is very easy for me. Also, if i listen to someone talking in German , I can understand some of it, or at least the idea. I would choose Portuguese.
