I have tried at least 20 translator engines but they will only give me the word in the Cyrillic alphabet. Can anyone tell me how to say 'rat' in Russian, but with the English alphabet? I want it in 'abc' form. For example, 'mouse' should be 'mushkah', not 'мышь'. I do not know how to read the Cyrillic alphabet. That translation up there makes me want to say 'mubblewub'.

Hello [native] Russian speakers/writers,
I have recently picked up Russian (the writing part though) and as I go through each alphabets, I find it quite easy. Anyways, that's for scripts on webpages.
If I were to write on paper, does it look like those I see on webpages? Say if I want to write the word "act", do I write акт or aкm?
Thank you!
Thanks for the answer to far. So, from what I understand, both are understandable to the reader and I shouldn't mix them... right?
I just don't want to be laughed at for not following some "rules". It because when formatted in italics, 'т' becomes 'm'. Same goes for И (u) and a few others. I like how the Cyrillic alphabet looks that's why I want to know if it's fine to write them.
Thanks anyway.

English is my first language and I've had three years of French. Now, since I'm somewhat fluent in French, I want to learn start learning Russian. I've always had an interest in Russian and I taught myself the Cyrillic alphabet when I was in 12 (18 now). I can read Russian and I can listen to something and be able to write it in Cyrillic. However, I have no idea what I'm reading or writing!
How hard is learning Russian? I got the alphabet down, I just need to learn the language.

I'm thinking about getting the rosetta stone over the summer and was wondering if I should purchase Russian or Arabic. I'm already proficient in Spanish and can understand most of the Cyrillic alphabet. Also, I would like to either work with the United Nations or become a translator when I grow up.

so recently, ive been very interested in learning Russian... it looks like a very interesting language to learn... but i don't know where to begin. im in high school right now, and they don't offer the course, but i will be graduating, so hopefully the college im going to might offer it. but in the meantime, i thought ide try to learn as much as i could through other sources.
so earlier in high school, i took a year of spanish, and it was ok, but didn't interest me very much. so i was looking at the cyrillic alphabet just to get an idea of what Russian is like. and i find a whole bunch of different symbols and letters. 3's sounding like z's and h's sounding like n's. learning spanish is much different though because most letters are the same in spanish as english... so in spanish, you could sound out a word and be able to make it through. but with russian, there is no way to sound out a word if you don't know what the letters sound like..
so how can i become more familiar with these? should i just make flash cards with each letter untill i can know the sound just by looking at it? and then once i know that, where do i go from there?
also i was thinking about getting a program like rosetta stone or something, has anybody tried this? does it work well? or do you have any better suggestions as to where i could learn more?
thanks

Okay, I am Russian, and can understand and speak Russian. I just cannot read or write it. I'm 13, and my parents moved to the USA when I was 3, so I never have ever had a chance to learn the alphabet. I bought the book, Russian in 10 Minutes a Day, and it is a workbook, and has tons of information. My Russian Opera singing teacher wants me to learn it, so I can sing in Russian. I just need to know the Cyrillic alphabet to understand it. My next singing lesson is next Wednesday. How can I learn just the alphabet fast. My BFF who is Polish and Hungarian, learned it in literatly 1 day. So, anyway I can know it well in a few days?

Can you help me write, "Hello, I like your taste in music" using the Cyrillic alphabet? Thanks.
No online translators please, they're too inaccurate. Please mention if you're a native speaker of Russian, or if you're fluent.

When I learned English (as my second language) as a child, I had to learn how to write the alphabet in cursive. And even though many teachers prefer cursive writing, I never do it. I am currently learning Russian and I can't stand the way my professor writes the cyrillic alphabet in cursive. So, I was wondering... is it common for people in Russia (despite their early learning of writing in cursive) to hand write things in block letters?

I plan on taking Russian and Ukrainian through correspondence this upcoming term and I was wondering how difficult this language is to learn. I seem to pick up languages fairly easily, and know some of the Cyrillic alphabet. So on a scale of 1-10, how difficult is it?

I am looking for a Russian translation in the Cyrillic alphabet of this Ayn Rand quote. I don't trust the regular translators to be correct on grammar, punctuation, etc. I would really appreciate it. Thank you so much.

I recently got the rosetta stone program for Russian, and was quite excited to use it. Me and my fans think Russia is awesome, and wanted to learn some Russian and take a trip there. Unfortunately, it seems that you have to be quite fluent in the Cyrillic alphabet to use the program. I was wondering if I am right in this, and if so, if anyone can give me any pointers in learning the cyrillic alphabet/Russian in general.
спасибо! (Thank you)
