What kind of dictionary do I need for TORFL (Test of Russian as a Foreign Language) Exam? Do I need a portable one or a really big one with all of the words?

Hi there, I'm highly interested to learn Russian language. I know its tough to learn easily. But if there is any software or dictionary which I can use to learn about how to pronounce Russian words then it will be easy for me to speak.
By this time I'll also learn the Russian alphabet and how to pronounce it. So, if you know or have any idea or website link about Russian language please share with me here. I'll be really greatful to you. Thank you.

I've tried Systran, IM, and Google Translate, but they all have serious weaknesses. I do not know enough about Russian to know which programs do the best with language structure and have a large enough dictionary, phrase recognition, etc. Google might be OK if it didn't randomly substitute incorrect pronouns.

I've noticed that my biggest problem with learning Russian has been my inability to remember vocabulary. I can remember (most of) the rules for which gender/case/tense gets what ending, but I spend far too much time looking up words in a dictionary.
Does anyone have any recommendations for effective ways to learn foreign language (particularly Russian) vocabulary? I'm well aware that there's no "shortcut" to learning a language, but maybe some of you have some useful suggestions!
Thanks a lot!
