Which language would make an easier switch for a kid who has enjoyed/excelled in Russian? I'm thinking French or German? He does not have a preference, just wishes he could continue Russian. Three years of one language are required for a college-bound high school diploma in our area.

I'm very interested in learning Russian but because I don't have a formal teacher I would know where to start. My school only offers French Spanish and Japanese taking French not my choice. Are there any beginner guides I can use so that I will know how long I should spend on a topic.
