my new years resolution is to learn a new language and I have decided to learn russian or spanish. Its hard for me learn other languages so I want to know which one is easier to learn.

do u know any airlines that need flight attendants who speak a few languages but russian in specifically?

I'm a native Russian speaker. I'd really like GPA booster. I generally pick up on languages quite quickly. My university offers Ukrainian, and I can't take beginners Russian. Would I be better off taking something else for an arts option?

We live in USA.
We both speak Russian, and my husband speaks English fluently, we want our child to speak both languages.

I speak English, French and Dutch fluently. I studied latin for 6 years, Greek for 1 year, German for 1 year, Spanish for half a year.
Just so you know, I have learned some languages before, as well as a different alphabet (Greek), and that's not too hard.

The only thing I'm concerned about is the grammar and language/phrase structure. Taking that into consideration, which one is going to be easier to learn?

I speak English french and italian and I was wondering if russian is harder or as hard to learn as these languages.

I'm trying to teach myself Russian, and I've got the grammar and alphabet down. Those aren't the hard parts. But I'm struggling beyond reason with vocabulary. Obviously there aren't any cognates between the languages, which really helped me out when I was learning Spanish. I don't learn things analytically, I learn them through conversation. But since I'm doing this on my own, I don't have anyone to converse with.

i've been thinking about doing a gcse in russian, i am fairly good at languages, but i've been told that russian (and chinese too) are rlly hard? can anyone give me any tips etc?

I'm in college and speak English and German. I want to throw a third language into the mix, either Russian or Czech. I have a great interest in studying in Prague, so Czech is the obvious answer on the surface. But I want my line of work to include traveling and speaking other languages, so in this case, Russian would be more useful. However, since I already know German, and German is spoken/dealt with in the Czech Republic, would learning Czech in addition to knowing English and German make me more marketable?

I have been choosing what language i am going to learn, go the full distance and become fluent in it. I have got it down to two languages Russian and Italian. I am English and don't know any other languages. I have looked into each one alittle and i just cant decide. I like Russia more than Italy but i know Italian is easier.

I am currently going to school to for criminal justice. So my future career will be a police officer or something in that area. I am also thinking of joining the marines after graduating just for that experience. I have been learning German for the past 4 years and am currently working on a college degree in German. I really would like to learn a different language and Russian just seemed to stick out. My question is this. Is it hard to pick up on Russian if you already know German? I used to have a girlfriend that was Russian and the two languages sounded somewhat similar. Is that true?

I didn't see it last night but on last week's episode, where they all went out for Daniel's b-day and got called into a secret interrogation room, he claimed he speaks 5 languages and some lady asked him in Russian "do you speak Russian?" and he was stumbling and making excuses. What the hell? How does he have an accent if he doesn't speak Russian? Do you think the show is fake and he is a paid actor?
If his parents are from Russia, then they would speak Russian at home and he would learn it, too!

I am a native English speaker with a very basic background in Japanese and Spanish. I plan to take courses with a private tutor that is a native speaker of which ever language I decide to start with first and possibly a few hours of classroom time every week.

I am writing a short story and am looking for the Russian translation of "Are you scared?" rendered in the Latin Alphabet. Using an online translator I came up with: “Novaya ya?”

In this instance it is a brother asking a sister if she is scared. I know some languages have familiar forms of you, not sure if Russian does.

Not sure if this would make a difference but this conversation would be happening circa 1916.

I plan on taking Russian and Ukrainian through correspondence this upcoming term and I was wondering how difficult this language is to learn. I seem to pick up languages fairly easily, and know some of the Cyrillic alphabet. So on a scale of 1-10, how difficult is it?

I'm looking to learn Russian, and several languages. Not really fluently, just enough. I need to know some programs that would work well, traditional classes don't cut it for me, and they simply take too much time.

if so, what other languages can i speak? i want to learn bulgarian and all but if russian can cover it, itll do! its also hard to find bulgarian classes and its also not on rosetta stone

Ive been thinking about learning Russian or German and was wander if Rosetta stone was an effective way to learn one of those languages and is it worth the price? i also found a website for learning Russian but i'm not sure if i should try that either because i'm not 100% sure if its a legit site. is http://www.russian-accelerator.com/ a legit site for learning Russian or would i be better of going some where else.

Specifically, how different is Russian grammar compared to English and to Latin based languages (I've studied French and Spanish)? ...I was teaching myself Japanese a while ago, and was doing pretty well with it. How difficult is Russian compared to Japanese?

I'm fourteen years old and my school only offers Spanish and French as second languages, but I'd really love to learn Russian. Is there any possible way that I could learn a new language by myself using only resources I can provide for myself? Where do I start?
Also, I'm already taking Spanish as a second language because it's required to take at least one foreign language. Will this make learning Russian more difficult because I'm learning two languages at once?

I'm an English-speaking college student, and I want to know which language would be easier for me to learn? I know Russian is spoken with the throat, rather than the tongue and lips, and that Japanese verbs and parts of speech can be VERY confusing, and despite these, I've pursued some basics in both languages. I can already speak 4 languages and i want to learn one more. I really want to learn either russian or portuguese. Portuguese is a really beautiful language and brazil and portugal are two very beautiful countries with lively cultures. I also know that portuguese would be a lot easier than russian. Russia is not as beautiful a country, but the russian culture is still fascinating as well as russian history and literature. Can you help me decide which language I should choose.
