I am 20 years old and love Russian music and want to learn. So far I can speak English Chinese and Spanish, so will learning Russian be complicated for me? I plan to take it next year in college
is it because the print letters are difficult to write? what do russian children do before they handwrite? what did russians do before the keyboard? i am teaching myself russian and i am having trouble making decent letters in russian... it would be faster to do them in cursive, but i want to learn how to read russian print.
i dont know if this is even a question at all... all i am saying is learning russian is hard!!
HOW DO YOU SAY:
1) HELLO, HOW ARE YOU? IS IT "PREE-VEE-YETT?"
AND (2) WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OR MEANING OF "HA-DA-SHO"
BEGINNING TO START LEARNING RUSSIAN SOON, OBVIOUSLY NUMBER ONE IS THE MOST COMMON IN ANY LANGUAGE AND I'VE HEARD #2 PLENTY OF TIMES AMONGST MY FRIEND'S PARENTS AND RELATIVES. I speak English and German, and can read ancient Greek. How would learning Russian compare to what I have already learned? Just trying to get an idea of what's ahead of me...
im 17 and im an american i have always been really interested in learning russian but how would i learn and where? is there maybe a free website i could go on to learn? and i wanna learn the right way just like the way every russian person speaks. and i wanna learn how to read those different letters.
English is my first language and I've had three years of French. Now, since I'm somewhat fluent in French, I want to learn start learning Russian. I've always had an interest in Russian and I taught myself the Cyrillic alphabet when I was in 12 (18 now). I can read Russian and I can listen to something and be able to write it in Cyrillic. However, I have no idea what I'm reading or writing!
How hard is learning Russian? I got the alphabet down, I just need to learn the language.
Im learning russian right now...but can never get how to write names in russian. Also any tips on learning russian would be great? Thxs
I really want to continue learning Russian, but there are no classes at high school to do so.
Is there an online class that is free or is low cost?
Or a program that's low cost?
It has to be an actual language class or program, not just a website that just gives the basics.
Please help, I've seen Rosettaa stone but its way to much......
So any suggestions?
so recently, ive been very interested in learning Russian... it looks like a very interesting language to learn... but i don't know where to begin. im in high school right now, and they don't offer the course, but i will be graduating, so hopefully the college im going to might offer it. but in the meantime, i thought ide try to learn as much as i could through other sources.
so earlier in high school, i took a year of spanish, and it was ok, but didn't interest me very much. so i was looking at the cyrillic alphabet just to get an idea of what Russian is like. and i find a whole bunch of different symbols and letters. 3's sounding like z's and h's sounding like n's. learning spanish is much different though because most letters are the same in spanish as english... so in spanish, you could sound out a word and be able to make it through. but with russian, there is no way to sound out a word if you don't know what the letters sound like..
so how can i become more familiar with these? should i just make flash cards with each letter untill i can know the sound just by looking at it? and then once i know that, where do i go from there?
also i was thinking about getting a program like rosetta stone or something, has anybody tried this? does it work well? or do you have any better suggestions as to where i could learn more?
thanks
Well I've been learning Russian for a while now but I don't know where to look to find advanced phrases other than the basics phrases that are online and in books and don't know how to practise Russian, any ideas?

im learning russian through audio tapes, which seem to helping a bit, but im stuck on something-
i don't know the russian alphabet,so im just going to write it in english typing.
you understand : vree banyimayitse
i understand: ya banyimayou
i dont understand: yani banyimayou
<---what i need help on is the 'yani' part- how exactly is it pronounced? the tape said the 'nie' sound is the negative word to denote 'not' or 'don't', but i can't hear that sound when they say it. i just hear yiani
and so how would you say for example, 'not very well'? nie ohchin harasho ? or smth like that? how is the negative pronounced?
and also words like banyimayitse (understand) & bazshouvayitse (are living), is it pronounced +tse or +kye at the end. its hard to hear.
this sounds completely stupid. but id like to know.
thanks

What program is best for learning Russian as a beginner?
Hi i have been thinking about learning russian but i was wondering where in minnesota can i learn russian for free.
please leave seriouse answers
I am interesting in possibly starting some Russian classes, how difficult has it been for some of you to learn and how long has it taken you to have some ability to understand conversations and be able to respond to questions (basic conversation). I am a native Spanish and English speaker, picked up Portuguese in under 4 months.. yet it's very similar to Spanish so i wouldn't say I have an affinity for languages.
Also, I go to UCB so I have great resources for learning Russian.
I'm learning Russian and thought that that would be a good aide in hearing more spoken Russian.

Me and a few friends have recently started learning russian. One friend has sent a text to the rest of us and he's blatantly used popular phrases, so I'd like to text some back with a translation of the phrase in the title as a joke.
Thanks for the help!
Oh, also it'll have to be in english letters, God help my phone's predictive text if I dare venture into the Russian letters with it!
