I have been chatting with a Russian girl through a pen pal website for a couple of weeks now, and we have had a lot of really good conversations, but I am starting to get a little bit suspicious of her intentions. She is very pretty and very smart, and a lot of what she says is really interesting and insightful, but she is starting to get very sensitive about everything I say, and she is insisting that we talk on Skype by video chat very soon, even though we’ve only chatted for a couple of weeks. She is also starting to complain about how she cannot find a boyfriend or a husband in Russia, and has even hinted at wanting to come visit when she is in the States to work next summer. Is this a great potential opportunity, or am I dealing with someone who is trying to use or manipulate me? I have been in similar situations before, but am very confused, having never been in this particular situation. Any advice would be most helpful.

I am currently going to school at a community college to specifically learn Russian. It seems to be going alright but the idea of spending thousands of dollars on a education I feel I can get in a matter of months by going to Russia and speaking it seems silly to me. What are some options I have? Are there jobs I can get in Russia without a degree? I can teach English, but all of the places I have looked at want a BA to work. Any ideas?

How do you say "you don't speak Russian well enough to move to Russia." When google translates it, it says "Вы не владеющих русским языком достаточно хорошо." Why not simply говорите and do you say "достаточно" or "довольно"?? Спасибо!

I need a answer from a REAL RUSSIAN RAISED IN RUSSIA! I DON'T WANT SOMEONE WHO THINKS THEIR SMART TO USE INTERNET TRANSLATOR!
I am asking a question to the Russian Post and American Dialect is very difficult for native Russians who speak english.
I am talking the prepaid international calling cards. Internet translation doesn't help at all. It gets confused with english synonyms.
Please help.

There are notebooks that have diagonal lines in them to help you write cursive correctly in Russian but they don't have them in the USA where could I get the ones they have in Russia?
I mean it is like a real notebook with the blue horizontal lines and red margins, but it also has blue diagonal lines. Russians should know what I am talking about

Bush hired Condi because of her Russian academic skills. She went 7,1/2 years without doing a thing. And now she finally gets to speak Russian to Russian diplomats.
Even though at the time Bush hired her, he did not know Reagan had defeated Russia and won the cold war. It has worked out for the good. Now she can get a book deal and retire.

Can you translate Chicken Pox into russian?

Russian speakers, Чтo знaчит "все прострелены меха" ?
The context, it seems to talk about Russia - Chechenya war, an accordian is shot dead by the army:
Как-то утром я на рынок слушать музыку пришла
И на том на прежнем месте гармониста не нашла.
И валялась гармонь все прострелены меха,
Гармониста не стало,будь ты проклята война.

I have to go live in russia for a while. It can take me 3 months to get fluent in a language. I was wondering how the girls see American men in general. I like the russian accent on girls but it depends on the girl. If the girl looks rough around the edges it makes her look all the more sexy but if she is a sweet looking girl it kind of ruines a first impression when she starts talking hardball russian. So for an average laid back joe american, I was curious what russian girls feel about American men in their own country?
Chillax. You girls make it sound like you never judged someone by their heritage. Seriously, you could have just skipped over this question and been cool with it? Why attack me for expressing my views. My likes and dislikes and then asking your own? My only attitude is peace. Reason I said what I did was to get the 'replier' thinking more closely about what they like themselves. Think about it, was I really saying russian women are unattractive? NO. What I was saying was a preference. For example, Russian whores like rich men. It's a preference. Just like how some guys like how Russian women talk and others like them to shut up. I like Russian girls, they have spunk. I would think it would be perfectly fine to like hardball russian's over the sweet wanna-bees.

could make out either one and not struggle so much to get around so much in each country or society if you understand Russian or Ukrainian? like for example, if you speak Russian, you won't have a hard time getting around in Ukraine, but if you speak Ukrainian, you won't have a hard time getting around in Russia, is that true?

I want to learn as much as I can about Russian history, culture, economics, and the language, just because I find Russia interesting and the language as well. I was wondering what books and/or movies, documentaries, etc. would be the best resources to learn about all of this? I wish to live in Russia for a while at some time in the future, so I want to know the ins and outs of daily life as well as its history.
Thanks!

I am a student in mechanical engineering in united states, but i am originally from Russia. I can read, write and speak in both english and russian equally well and do not have an accent in either language. I really want to somehow make use of my fluency in Russian when I graduate. Anybody, perhaps somebody who already works in the field, have any ideas how I can apply my knowledge?

I'm wanting to write a story about a character from Russia who lives through a terrible experience (kind of like the Holocaust in/involving Germany), and I was wondering if there really was something like that in Russian history that I could write about.
I'm wanting the character to be taken away from their home and sent to live under horrible conditions or in another country or something because they're being forced to.

The Russians and English speakers as you know have totally different structures of their vocal organs. What Russian sounds or sound combinations are the hardest to pronounce for you? Is it difficult to work out the Russian accent?
To Snaka:
I'm Russian and I have never seen an American who speaks Russian without his/her native accent. No one! Even those who have lived in Russia for many years still can't get rid of some typical English sounds.
Russian language speaking involves back part of a mouth and a throat a lot while English - mostly front part. Tongue position in Russian - mostly at the top or in the middle of the mouth, in English - at the bottom. Also the vocals in Russian are longer. Correct me if I'm off base about English.
