learning to speak Russian?

i want to go to Russia in a years time, what is the chance learning it on my own and will i be able to understand if they speak to me. Do I have to get a tutor?

For reasons I won't bore you with, I want to learn to speak & write Russian. Or whatever could be considered the most mainstream, and likely-to-endure-as-mainstream, language easily understood and spoken by a good majority of people in the former USSR nation states.

Not looking to take college classes right now or hire expensive tutor.

Of course I can google things.....and I get a zillion results for learning language, but what is the BEST way if anyone has some real experience - in a low cost way to begin learning Russian? Good websites / material / books from library - something I can handle and won't get too overwhelmed doing a little each day?

currently, I am fluent in english and spanish.

Russian Language???

How can I learn Russian without spending alot of money? Please don't say "look online" or "get a tutor". I've used books and CD's. I know some basic words. I would like any decent or practical suggestion. Any schools around NC or MD? Thanks.
Well, I am going to Ukraine to meet with some ladies.
I watch Russian movies all the time! But I don't have Russian/Ukrainian friends.
Btw, I watched Day Watch and Night Watch in English and in Russian. I love those movies!!!

Preferably in Cyrillic script. I have some Russian friends on my Facebook account and wanted to post it as my status as a humorous way of asking for a tutor to practice with to see if anyone responds.

Can i speak Russian before 2011 August?

I wanted to know if i am capable of speaking Russian before August, 2011.
Right now, i study 2 hours of Russian everyday. (1 hour with tutor & 1 hour by myself)
I'm curious to know if i can speak Russian in a year. Right now I can speak simple sentences, but i know how to make semi-medium to medium hard sentences by myself, but it takes a bit of a time to process.

I know how to write sentences as long as, "I saw the man we talked about yesterday, at the market."

It's only been 2 weeks since I learned...I try really hard and I'm also a fast learner.
So do you think i can learn how to speak (not necessarily write) Russian fluently in 1 year?
I also know how to write in present, and future. I know some word and know perfectly how to conjugate. The problem is i still need to learn how to make longer sentences with a wider variety of vocabulary. I also need to speak faster without thinking much.

I plan on traveling to Russia next year to tutor a family on English. Will I be able to enjoy what Russia has to offer without being able to speak any Russian?

How long does it take to learn russian?

I am in a Russian speaking country so I am learning Russian everyday from a tutor. I really want to learn Russian! How long would it take me if i get tutored everyday and have some Russian speaking friends??? Thnx!

Where can I learn Russian in Singapore?

I've recently become interested in learning the russian language. The only problem is that I've no idea which organisations/schools offer russian as a foreign language, so right now I'm trying to teach myself using internet and audio clips. I really want a tutor to teach me the language properly in person so that I'll be able to learn it faster instead of trying to figure out how the language and various variations to pronounciations/sentence structures work on my own. The 3rd language centres over here don't offer russian as a foreign language, and it's really hard to find russians in singapore. I'm currently in the music conservatory at NUS, and I only know 2 russian teachers of mine. But it's kind of hard to ask them for proper russian lessons in the conservatory when my timetable is getting fuller by the semesters. Plus they aren't trained in teaching languages.

Does anyone know where I can go for proper russian lessons, not counting internet, books or going to russia?
