Although you'll find a lot of English, French and German borrowings in Russian, they are just that - borrowings. All the basic vocabulary will seem completely alien to you, since the borrowings are usually for words used by specialists and such. As a native speaker I don't really know what people learning Russian have to go through. I would imagine noun declension is quite difficult, but I've heard there's a similar thing in German (with less cases, but still). As for the alphabet, that should be the least of your worries - you'll learn it in a week or two and after that reading Russian will be relatively easy (except for the unpredictable syllable stress), seeing as Russian is mostly read as it is written, unlike English with its absurd letter combinations like -ough-.
