Start by going to Russian chatrooms, penpals, ect. Pen paling is the BEST way, I learned French and French culture like that, and I want to learn Russian also. You can go to ICQ or any pen pal or language website. Try to get as many pen pals as possible. If your having a hard time understanding what their saying, use an online translator, (google, language tools). Although most usually speak English also. There are some pen pal websites, most of them, that have a language exchange program, which is, if somebody wants to learn English, and you want to learn Russian, you pair up and exchange languages. Also I heard Rosetta Stone is good. The program is worth it, my sister has it and she's learning Chinese. I think it's a bit pricey though, I'm not sure. It will take time though, so you must be patient. Just think Russia everyday when you wake up and go to sleep and start getting used to the language. Then there is always going to Russia, or student exchange, if your a student. Hope this helped :)

These are some websites with language exchange, translator, and pen pals.

http://www.nk.rim.or.jp/~hirokun/index2.html - Pen Pal, one I am one, it is amazing I get tons of e-mails everyday. It has photo i.d's and age too, so you can be picky.

http://www.lingozone.com/index.php - Pretty good site.

http://babelfish.altavista.com/tr - Best translator

http://206.196.22.123/default.asp - My Language Exchange, you have to pay though to do most of the stuff.

Join the Army. Take the DLAB. Become a linguist. And take Russian at the Presidio, otherwise know as The Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC).

Note: This is all one thing. You have to be an employee of the DOD to go to the Presidio.

Note: BTW, the Presidio is no longer in San Francisco. It's now in Monterey.
