Why do most people from Kazakhstan look chinese if they speak Russian and the majority practise Islam?
I didn't even know that country existed, till I saw the satirical character of Sacha Cohen, Borat, a reporter from Kazakhstan.
I'm just asking if perhaps a long time ago the Chinese emigrated to that country from one side and the Russians from the other, and then mixed and became Kazakhs?
But what I don't understand is how they became Muslim. Did some people from the Arabic countries also move into the country and convert them to that religion?

actually they (kazakhs) speak their own language. i think its arabic based so is the alphabet.they have mongol heritage-that is why the looks.islam came with traders and mongols traveling across steps and deserts of kazakhstan .russian was implemented in late 18 hundreds and in forced after 1917 revolution . i d say 30 to 40 %of population are migrants from other x soviet republics. a lot of them did not come there "on their own" but were forced , specially in the 50 s. i dont know if that helped u any.i m not a historian but i think the basics are pretty accurate
…because everyone is different…
Kazakhstan and other countries are right in the middle of what is currently known as eastern Europe and Asia. Obviously through conquering, migration patterns, ethnic variety has resulted in the cultures you see. Take a look at parts of Mongolia and parts of northern China. It’s very hard to distinguish the ‘russian’ and ‘chinese’ cultures.
You answered your own question. Conquering cultures will force their belief and government structures onto ‘lesser’ groups. Settlers from the south I’m sure had an influence, just as from the east.
