Why do Indians speak English?
Sorry friend but even after imperialist’s leave the natives of the country usually stick with the best language for commerce. Follow the money.
Why don’t the Irish go back to Gaelic?
Because many Ukrainians are stupid and weak. Something like in Ukraine there are in Latvia. Many stupid "latvians" (in reality russians) think they are latvians, because they have Latvian citizenship. But they can not speak Latvian. They do not know at least one word in Latvian!
Look what happened in Estonia…
If Ukraine and Latvia would not been occupied by russia, then everything would be different. Our countries would be CLEAN from russians…
Maybe because it’s more convenient for them to use Russian because there are more people that speak Russian than Ukrainian (in the world I mean)? Plus, the Eastern part of Ukraine has closer ties to Russia than the Western part. And if the person was born in like 1965 and they didn’t learn Ukrainian then, they probably won’t learn Ukrainian now. I do agree with you that the people of each country should speak their own language, but you have to wait for a new generation to grow up speaking only ukrainian to completely get rid of Russian-speaking people.
If you have a thing against ethnic Russians, then that’s a different problem. The only solution for that is Hitler-esque "ethnic cleansing". I hope you’re not dumb enough to be brainwashed into that.
How were you born in Lwow and your name is Anrew? Are you embarassed of who u are if i am correct it should be Andrey. Plus you should be glad that you were born in Lwow because it is what it is because of what Poland made it out to be before Russia took it away.
Ukrainians speak Russian because it was the official national language until 2004, and it was the official language used in schools to teach children. Eastern Ukrainians know very little Ukrainian, and speak mostly Russian, for a couple reasons:
1. Culturally, many Eastern Ukrainians are Russians who were transplanted many many years ago. Russia shipped most of the rich Ukrainians from Eastern Ukraine to Siberia so they did not have an influence on the "new communist regime" of the early 1900’s (1917 was the Red Revolution, if I recall the date correctly). Thus, for the past 90 years, Eastern Ukraine has been primarily Russian.
2. Even though Ukrainian was taught as a "second language", most Eastern Ukrainian children spoke Russian at home on a daily basis (due to #1, above). Thus, their Ukrainian skills were never developed. Western Ukrainians, however, still spoke Ukrainian in their homes and thus have much better Ukrainian skills.
As of last year, Ukrainian is now the only language that is officially taught in Ukrainian schools. All classes must be taught in it. Russian and English are "alternative 2nd languages" that are taught, but parents must pay a small fee for a "private teacher" to come into the classroom and teach the class.
Over the next 10-20 years, you will find Russian will become less and less spoken in Ukraine, because the younger generations who are learning Ukrainian will speak it more and more.
Same as Latvia, Lithuania, Georgia, Belarusia, and the plethora of other CIS countries that are moving from Russian back to their native languages. It just takes time – thinking that Russia can leave and everyone will magically speak Ukrainian is short sighted and unrealistic.
If you so much Ukrainian you should live in Ukraine and speak Ukrainian and be called Andriy. If it so easy to be mad living abroad. Real Ukrainian never leave Ukraine.
And why do you speak English?
they don’t . they have their own language it is similar to Russian but it is not the same
